About the Club

Where Passion meets Precision

​

Sudbury Model Railway Club was founded in 1980 after a simple advert was placed in the Railway Modeller asking for interested modellers to contact Malcolm Hines, and quickly grew into a vibrant community of railway enthusiasts. This led to the club attending local events with members showcasing their personal layouts.

​

Work started on the first club layout (Melford) in 1981, which then appeared at the club's first model railway exhibition in October of the same year. Being a small club, we have never had a large membership, but those that attend are enthusiastic and dedicated.

​

45 years after our first exhibition, we're still going strong and are as busy and active as ever, with a number of new ideas for detailed layouts being explored.  From those humble beginnings, the club has evolved with a rich history and a bright future.

What We Offer

We meet on Friday evenings from 7:00pm to 10:00pm (please see out Meetings Schedule for winter variations). New members are always welcome. No experience of modelling is necessary, the only requirement is enthusiasm! The club offers a welcoming and inclusive space for railway modellers of all experience levels, so whether you are a seasoned modeller or just curious, you'll find a place here.

We understand joining clubs can be expensive so we only charge an affordable annual membership of just £30. We then charge £4 per attended club night.
